Feature / 01
James is an eight-year-old boy who has been facing serious health challenges since he was eight months old.
His condition began with a small swelling that grew over time, leading to medical consultations across multiple hospitals and many painful tests, all leading to a diagnosis of a Neurofribroma that needs to be surgically removed.
Tragically, his mother passed away in March 2024, leaving him and his siblings in the care of their elderly grandparents.
BCS has provided James with routine medical checkups, treatment for common illnesses, and psychosocial support for him and his grandparents.
BCS facilitated James’ transfer to Mulago Cancer Institute for advanced diagnostics and treatment

Faith is a beautiful girl who has sickle cell anemia. She is also deaf.
Sickle Cell Anemia can lead to painful, debilitating episodes that makes it difficult to participate in daily living.
The school was too far to walk to, making it difficult for her to get there.
Even when she did attend, Faith couldn’t understand the lessons because nobody knew sign language, so she was unable to continue.
BCS has helped Faith, the teachers, and the whole community to learn sign language so that she can learn with her peers, and feel a sense of belonging in her community.
About BCS
Our mission is to provide holistic support to children
affected by chronic illnesses, disabilities, and vulnerabilities through access to healthcare, education, livelihoods, and psychosocial support.
BCS operates in the Teso Sub-region of Eastern Uganda – particularly in Soroti, Kumi, Serere, and Katakwi – districts that face high rates of child vulnerability due to chronic illness, HIV/AIDS, and limited access to basic services.
Our work extends from village clinics to classrooms, from caregivers’ homes to community gatherings — anywhere a child’s wellbeing needs a helping hand.
